The Columbia Regional Airport (COU) is owned and operated by the City of Columbia, Missouri. COU is a commercial passenger airport serving Columbia, Missouri. Located about 2 miles southeast of Columbia in Boone County, Missouri, it is the only commercial airport in Mid-Missouri and serves the state capital of Jefferson City.
This project entailed Phase 1 of a new terminal. AVANT ACOUSTICS designed the public address system and room acoustics for all public areas throughout the terminal, including the implementation of the MIZZOU fight song in the baggage claim area when passenger luggage arrives.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS collaborated with architects to design Columbia’s new terminal with the latest digital, network-centric paging system. New head-end and ambient noise-sensing equipment for processing paging announcements was provided as well as new, digital microphone paging stations throughout the terminal for initiating clear, intelligible announcements. Both live and prerecorded announcement capabilities, loudspeaker distribution systems, and interface with other systems were included.

The acoustical consulting team at AVANT ACOUSTICS recently worked on the design of the Embassy Suites in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Room acoustics are sound functions within a space. This is a special challenge in a hotel conference center setting because of the variety of uses that have different acoustical needs. Large ballrooms and meeting rooms can be subdivided for smaller gatherings, and uses vary from conferences and trade shows to wedding receptions. The objective of our acoustical consulting is to design rooms that can function in a variety of ways to ensure the most welcoming experience for the guests.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS’ architectural noise control consulting is aimed at keeping the sounds of each area of the hotel isolated from each other. This process involves working together with the client to create a design that best allows people in adjacent event spaces as well as in adjacent guest rooms to be able to behave normally without either side being bothered by the sounds from the others.

AVANT ACOUSTICS designed the Audio-Visual systems and Acoustical aspects of the Library located in Lenexa City Center. Because the library was part of the overall development of the relocation of downtown Lenexa, it is the center focus which is connected to many other facilities, including City Hall, a great food hall and shopping. There was a lot of excitement for the project in the community since it provides a much-needed resource to people of all ages.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT provided room acoustics consultation to establish proper acoustical characteristics for the spaces within the building. This included recommendations relating to the selection of interior surface shapes, finish materials, seating, and other design considerations. AVANT made audio-visual presentation and sound reinforcement systems for all of the common spaces, multiple conference rooms of all sizes as well as staff meeting spaces.

AVANT ACOUSTICS had the pleasure of providing acoustical consulting services for the construction of the new Mark Arts building in Wichita, Kansas. This new 40,000-square-foot building features nine studios and a great hall for special events, as well as gallery space.
Our acoustical consulting team collaborated with designers from Alloy Architecture to create acoustical solutions for the project’s unique architecture. Our team worked on the event space and the gallery.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
The gallery has a lot of exterior glass, which made it more challenging to include acoustical treatments in the room. Our team was able to angle the exterior glass walls to prevent flutter echo and include a center section of stretched membrane acoustical ceiling. This led to a room that works very well acoustically.

Orlando International Airport was a military airport in it’s beginnings and opened as a regular passenger terminal in 1984. The AVANT aviation design team recently worked on the South Terminal C. This terminal consists of the south terminal complex including gates 230–245 with a pre-security tramway connecting to Terminals A & B. AVANT consulted on the acoustics and noise control issues for South Terminal C. In a previous project, AVANT designed and commissioned a public address system for the Airside 4 Building. MCO is managed by the Greater Orlando Airport Authority.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
Emily Jaumard was the project manager and acoustics design lead. One highlight was working on an international team of designers. Another was having the opportunity to collaborate in the creation of the major focal points of the new terminal, to enhance the “Orlando Experience”. Especially challenging was the central Palm Court because of its immense size shown in the picture above.

The AVANT ACOUSTICS team is proud to have worked on the 2023 Renovation Project at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Jefferson City, MO. The Cathedral serves as the main or “mother” church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City.
The existing audio systems, portions of which were original to the building, received a complete overhaul. The primary objective for the new loudspeaker distribution was to provide optimal coverage to all seating areas without introducing any obstruction or distraction from the artistic, architectural, or aesthetic elements, which included many intricate mosaics, sculptures, and wood finishes.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
To minimize visual impact, custom-painted full-range loudspeakers were installed at the ceiling in lieu of suspended arrays or wall-mounted speakers at eye level. The coaxial design and directed pattern control of the loudspeakers provided excellent intelligibility despite the room’s added reverberance and lofty ceilings. With the same aesthetic goals in mind, specialty microphones were selected to enrich the sound of services while remaining as out of sight as possible. These include a soundboard mic at the piano, unobtrusive choral mics, and custom-installed array mics at the ambo and altar.

AVANT ACOUSTICS designers worked with Helix Architecture and leadership from the UMKC Conservatory to assist with the acoustical and audio-visual aspects of Grant Hall on the main campus in Kansas City, Missouri. When designing the back of house or stage area, there are many challenges to get incoming and outgoing sound perfect, because there are many moving parts backstage, curtains, scene changers, various lights and other equipment that requires design coordination between all of the subcontractors and the lead architect.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
Included in this project were the Olson Center of the Performing Arts Instrumental Rehearsal Room and Practice Rooms as well as the Grant Hall Multipurpose Theater. Special attention was given to the privacy of the practice rooms, so that musicians can hear only themselves and not disrupt others or be disrupted themselves.

The renovation of the 2,000-seat Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center included a new entrance lobby, a new sound system, and upgrades to interior materials and mechanical equipment.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS carefully crafted the design of the new loudspeaker cluster around the existing perforated opening in the proscenium, creating even coverage, yet maintaining the aesthetics of the space.
The front end of the sound system is a digital mixing console that utilizes a digital audio snake to transport audio from the stage to the sound booth in the seats. This configuration minimized the installation impact of the new system on the existing space and allows for flexible routing and patching for the end user.

Wichita, Kansas, known as “the Air Capital of the World” because of its long history of aircraft design and manufacturing, now has a terminal worthy of its heritage. With 12 gate holdrooms, ticketing and baggage claim halls and security screening areas, the new terminal is spacious, filled with light, and designed to evoke flight and aircraft design.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
Through a 10+ year design process, AVANT ACOUSTICS worked closely with the project architects and engineers to ensure a comfortable acoustical environment with an integrated audio and video paging system. The computer-controlled, network-based paging system meets current needs while allowing for future reconfiguration and expansion. Dedicated microphone paging stations and a system of ceiling-mounted loudspeakers provide intelligible announcements throughout the terminal.
The visual display of prerecorded general messages and flight announcements enable communication with deaf or hard of hearing passengers. Audio levels are adjusted automatically based on ambient noise sensors.
